Short Stay ‘C’ Visit (Tourist) Visa
If you wish to come to Ireland for 90 days or less and if you are from a visa required country you will need to apply for a short stay ‘C’ (tourist) visa.
About this visa
A short stay ‘C’ visit (tourist) visa allows you to travel to Ireland for up to 90 days for:
• Tourism
• To visit family/friend
• Study. For example, a short term English language course
• To get married
• Medical treatment.
This visa does not allow you to:
• Do work (paid or unpaid) of any kind
• Use any publicly funded services. For example, a public hospital.
Note: A visa allows you to travel to Ireland only. It does not give you permission to enter the country or to stay here. An immigration officer at border control can refuse entry even if you have a visa.
Who needs to apply?
• If you are a visa required national you must apply for a visa before travelling to Ireland. You can find out if you need a visa here
• Each traveller must apply for a separate visa. There are no family visas
• A parent or legal guardian should make a tourist visa application for a young person (aged under 18)
• You should not buy travel tickets before you receive a decision on your visa application.
Special visa programmes
Travel to Ireland on a school group trip from EU/EEA or Switzerland
You may not need an Irish visa if you are a school student and you want to come here as part of a school group trip. This applies to those who are legally resident in another EU/EEA country or Switzerland.
Travel to Ireland using a UK visa
You may be able to visit Ireland without applying for a separate Irish visa, if you have an eligible UK (short stay) visitor visa and you are a citizen of an approved country.
Travel between Ireland and UK for certain Chinese and Indian nationals
You may be able to visit Ireland and the United Kingdom using a single Irish or UK visa if you travel using a Chinese or Indian passport.
