The federal government is dedicated to bolstering critical sectors within regional economies while offering skilled workers clear pathways to permanent residency.
On 1 October 2024, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced a new agreement between the federal government and the Government of Yukon aimed at facilitating the transition of temporary workers vital to the territory’s economic development into permanent residents.
Under this temporary measure, up to 215 temporary workers identified by the Government of Yukon will receive new work permits, allowing them to continue working while their permanent residence applications are processed through the Yukon Nominee Program. Eligible individuals must demonstrate compliance with the program’s criteria and are anticipated to transition to permanent residency in 2025 and 2026. These skilled workers are instrumental in filling essential job vacancies in Yukon and are making significant contributions to Canada’s economy and social diversity.
